An online marketplace that curates unique, local speciality shops from vibrant neighborhoods

About Reppio

Reppio is an online marketplace that features a city’s unique local shops and independent designers. It is an omnichannel platform that aims to increase engagement between shoppers and local retailers. I worked as a user experience designer at Reppio, where I made wireframes, conducted usability tests, and contributed to the visual design of several key pages.

A Better Way to Shop Local?

There are many unique, local stores waiting to be discovered. The problem is that people don’t really have the time to explore their city’s neighborhoods. It is difficult to know what shops are available, what they carry, and when they have sales and new arrivals. Most people find their favorite stores by accident or through word of mouth.

We Targeted Trendsetters

Trendsetters tend to stay away from big box retailers, find pleasure in discovering unique stores, and love to share findings on social media. They are generally between the ages of 25-35, research items online and in-store, and maintain strong relationships with their favorite shops. Their biggest pain point is their busy lifestyles prevent them from consistently exploring the city for new shops.

Research Insights

People Don't Have Time to Explore

We surveyed people living in Chicago, and they estimated that they have only explored about 30% of the city because of their busy schedules.

Buyers Build Relationships

Our interviews revealed that boutique shoppers establish personal relationships with shop owners to get access to special events and sales.

Online Presence Matters

Our market research informed us that most shoppers use a combination of online and in-store research before making a purchase.

Sketching Ideas for the Optimal Experience

The design team used insights from our research to determine the website’s key functionality. We considered the thrill of discovering new products, the importance of the buyer/owner relationship, and the social nature of trendsetters. I helped determine user flows, wireframe pages, and prioritize the most important features before moving our design to digital.

An online marketplace where people can discover unique, local speciality shops, create personalized style collections, and build last relationships with the community.

Discover Hidden Gems

Browse through a collection of curated content from local shops. Keep up with the latest trends in the activity feed. Learn more about popular stores in the area.

See More than Just Product Details

We aimed to maximize product and store visibility. Customers can share findings on social media, browse through similar products, and learn more about the seller.

Look Through the Digital Glass

Each store page has its own unique look and feel with customized pictures and tags. The page showcases a limited collection of products that best reflects the business. Customers engage with stores by following them for updates and deals.

Search and Add Items to Your Collection

Search by tags or keywords. Filter by price or location. Sort results by popularity, price, or recently added. Bookmark items in the search results with a single mouse click.

Create Collections and Get Inspired

Reppio was built to be more than just a marketplace. It’s also a social platform. Curate findings into collections. Follow trendsetters, get inspired, and even set the style.

Finally, a Useful Guide

We conducted surveys and interviews to determine the extent to which city natives explored neighborhoods. We found that most city residents living there for more than a year have only explored about 25-50%. Therefore, we created the Neighborhood Guide concept, where shoppers can filter neighborhoods by style and location, allowing them to easily discover new places right from their computer.

Everyone’s Excited for a New Way to Shop Local

Reppio launched in Chicago in 2013 with plans to expand to New York and Los Angeles. Below are some highlights from what major influencers and bloggers had to say about the startup.

The concept is to promote Chicago shops and designers by putting everything into one place…shopping local has never been easier.
